Deirdre Boyd

Deirdre has been passionate about drawing and painting from about the age of 4yrs.

Unfortunately “life happens “and she was forced to pursue a career in nursing. After raising 4 children and having several serious illnesses that made her realize how important art was to her, she finally decided that life would not be complete without a serious journey in art. Watercolour is by far her most loved medium. Nothing gets her more excited than to see those gorgeous clear colours flow and blend on the paper, they have a life of their own. So exciting !

Deirdre studied with the Woodville Traditional Art group and with maritime artist John Ford.  Primarily self taught, using books and attending as many workshops and master classes as possible. Her main influences are: Tony Smibert, JMW Turner, David Taylor, Joseph Zbukvic ,Gerhard Ritter, and many more.

Deirdre has been a member of PACA, HAGAS and is currently a member of RSASA, an inaugural member of SAWS and continues to learn and develop her art.

Deirdre has also taught numerous classes on drawing and watercolour techniques over the past 10 years, with private students and teaching workshops in and around Adelaide. She has also worked closely with the Port Adelaide Mental Health Unit over several years, as teacher and curator to organise their “ Mental Health Week Art Show” in  2005 & 2006.

Deirdre has served on  PACAC council for 3 years, and on the council of RSASA ( Royal South Australian Soc. Of Arts) as representative for new members, for 2 years.  Also taught in 2013 RSASA Summer school, then was curator for the “Tutor’s Summer School Exhibition” in 2013.

Currently setting up classes in “ Foundations in Watercolour “ a course for beginners and those wanting to build their skills.
